George Clooney has admitted that after working on his new movie The Ides of March he now has a better understanding of the difficulties that they face.
As well as starring as a political candidate in the movie Clooney also directed the project - as well as penned the screenplay.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph the actor said: "I don't know whether anyone can do this cleanly.
"I spent 16 weeks in an office on K street with Republican operatives, Mary Matalin, Michael Deaver and James Carville.
"I worked with a bunch of them and I saw just how difficult it was for anyone in the political arena, on either side to not have to shake hands with people that made them not feel clean."
Ides of March looks set to be one of the films that is in the mix come the awards season as it brings together an impressive cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Evan Rachel Wood, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Marisa Tomei.
And that is not the only movie project that Clooney has on the go as he is also set to star in The Descendants - another movie that is surrounded in Oscar whispers.
The Ides of March is released 28th October
