George Clooney believes that he latest movie The Ides of March will strike a chord with audiences around the world and not just in America.
Clooney is back in the director's chair for the first time since Leatherheads back in 2008 - he also stars in and wrote the screenplay for his latest movie.
And while the movie focuses on American politics Clooney has found they it has resonated with audiences everywhere that it has been screened.
Speaking to Parade the actor said: "Everywhere it's played, they think it's got something to do with their politics.
"When I had to pitch this movie, I would say, 'OK, here's why it's universal and not just an American film about delegate counts.' I pitched the idea of a morality tale."
"I often referenced ER, because when we first finished the pilot the network thought no-one was going to get it.
"They thought no-one would understand words like supraventricular tachyarrhythmia. But the characters were what sold it - that's what people cared about."
The movie brings together an impressive cast which includes Ryan Gosling, Marisa Tomei, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Evan Rachel Wood - and there are Oscar whispers already surrounding the movie.
The Ides of March is released 28th October.
