Gael Garcia Bernal has defended his Letter to Juliet character claiming that he isn't a jerk.
The actor teams up with Amanda Seyfried for the new romance movie, which also stars Vanessa Redgrave and Chris Egan.
He takes on the role of Victor who puts his work before his fiance Sophie, played by Seyfried.
Speaking to MTV the actor said: "[My] character, I think, is actually very concentrated on the things he likes and the thing is, right now, his girlfriend is not able to follow him and share with him that excitement."
"So, I think they just kind of meet at that point. I wouldn't call him a jerk, actually."
And while Victor may not be doing so well in the romance department Bernal praises his character's devotion to his work.
"He knows his stuff. He knows a lot about what he's doing, more than any of us know about cooking, the Italian culture.
"I wouldn't judge him. I don't like judging characters at all morally."
Letter To Juliet is released 21st May.
