Gabourey Sidibe revealed that she was honoured to be at the Baftas.
The actress, who shot to fame this year for her performance in the gritty movie Precious, based on the novel by Sapphire, picked up another Best Actress nomination for her performance.
She follows up nominations at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild nods and she will battle it out next month for Best Actress at the Oscars.
Speaking to the Press Association she said: "It's such an honour to be nominated. It's a double honour because it's not my country - you guys don't have to care!"
"But it's great because it shows that you understood the message of the film, you understood the message of the character, so it's an amazing honour to be nominated here."
Despite being at an award ceremony away from American the actress insisted that the Baftas was just as glamorous an occasion.
"It's colder, because the Golden Globes happen in LA and the Baftas happen in London in winter! It's just as glamorous except in the Golden Globes we didn't have the Prince walk by."
She found herself up against Meryl Streep, Saoirse Ronan, Carey Mulligan and Audrey Tautou with fellow newbie Mulligan walking away with the gong.
