Ethan Hawke has revealed that he is glad that he missed out on the central role of Jack in Titanic.
The actor auditioned for the role back in the mid nineties, a role that eventually went to Leonardo DiCaprio; it was the role that made him a global superstar.
And Hawke is glad that he didn't have to deal with all the attention and media hype that came with Titanic's success.
He told The Daily Telegraph: "I sat there watching him and it was like watching a Beatle. The closest thing I've ever come to that frenzy.
"All the girls wanted to f**k him and all the guys wanted to fight him. I went to myself, 'Wow man, I'm glad I didn't get that part'.
"But you know, secretly, I couldn't help thinking that if I had got it maybe I could have lived exactly the life I wanted to.
"That I would never have had to worry about my career. Damn DiCaprio!"
Over the years Hawke has mixed and matched his roles, picking up a best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for Training Day.
He has already had success this year with vampire movie Daybreakers and is back with Brooklyn's Finest, which sees him reunite with Antoine Faqua.
Brooklyn's Finest is out now.
