Ethan Hawke has revealed that he loves the cop genre of film.

The actor shot to fame starring in Antoine Fuqua's Training Day back in 2001 and reunites with the filmmaker this week for Brooklyn's Finest.

Hawke told the Daily Telegraph: "What I liked about Training Day was that there was a real darkness at the heart of it, and some Hollywood touches around the edges.

"This is kind of taking the darkness up a notch. I love the cop genre because it gives me an opportunity to play real human beings - people who aren't superheroes, or zombies, or whatever. But do you end up glamorising violence? I really don't know."

He added: "I do know that I take a certain pride in making a movie that doesn't show people being shot or beaten up. But you know, it’s easy to get people's attention with t*ts and guns. It's harder to get their attention with ideas.

"The thing is, I’ve always liked t*ts and guns... Oh God. I just thought that’s the line that’s going to be under my picture, 'I've always liked t*ts and guns'. Please don't let them do that."

It's already been a good year for Hawke after the success of his vampire movie Daybreakers earlier in the year.

And his busy year looks set to continue as he has already completed Tonight At Noon and is currently filming Boyhood, which is directed by Richard Linklater.

Brooklyn's Finest is out now.
