Eric Cantona has insisted that his new movie Looking for Eric is not just a movie for football fans.
The United legend turned actor has collaborated with award winning director Ken Loach, the man behind The Wind That Shakes the Barley, for his first big English speaking movie since Elizabeth.
Speaking at the UK press conference to promote the movie Cantona said: "It's not only a film about relationships between fans and idols."
"It's also a love story, a story of a man who's depressed, has problems in his relationships with his step-children. All the subjects are very universal."
In the movie Cantona plays himself as the life of football fanatic postman descends into chaos he finds himself taking advice from his footballing hero.
"It's not only for United fans. It was my experience, when I saw the film for the first time, I felt the same energy I had when I met [fans].
"It's why I wanted to work with Ken and Paul. They have a lot of humanity and solidarity in their previous films."
Looking For Eric is released 12th June.
