Emma Thompson has revealed that it was satisfying to return to the character of Nanny McPhee.
The British actress reprises the role in Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang, which is released in the U.S. this week.
It's been four years since Nanny McPhee first appeared on the big screen and she is back in a second film alongside Maggie Gyllenhaal and Rhys Ifans.
Speaking to MTV the actress said: "There was a big gap ... four years, so I had lots of time to do other things.
"It's very different to reprise a character if you've also written the story. You have so much invested in the story, and because I have so much involvement in casting and seeing it come together, there's something hugely satisfying about it, so it's not just a question of, suddenly I turn up on set and I have to put the makeup on.
"I've been sitting and writing it for years, literally. In a sense, putting the costume on is the reward for having sat on my own for a few years writing the story."
Earlier this week the actress admitted that she was already thinking about working on a third script and was possibly planning to set the movie in modern day.
The Oscar winner has also been working on a script for the remake of My Fair Lady, a screenplay she has completed.
