Elton John will help to kick off the 10th annual Tribeca Film Festival in style by staging a free performance after a public screening of The Union, a documentary about his 2010 album collaboration with Leon Russell.
Director Cameron Crowe's movie, which gives fans an insightful look into the creative process behind Elton and Russell's joint release, will open the New York event on 20 April (11).
And Elton will celebrate the documentary's premiere with a special free concert at the end of the night - as a thank you from festival organisers to Big Apple residents for continuing to support the annual film gala, which was established by Robert De Niro in 2001.
Cameron Crowe says, "As a longtime fan of both artists, it was a pleasure to spend a year filming their collaboration.
"We can't wait to show it to one of the greatest audiences in the world, the Tribeca Film Festival."
Elton adds, "I'm absolutely thrilled that the documentary about The Union will premiere opening night at the Tribeca Film Festival."
