Elijah Wood has revealed that he is excited about The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey because he is a big fan of the book.
The Lord of the Rings star is set to reprise the role of Frodo Baggins in the Peter Jackson movie - returning to that character for the first in almost a decade.
But Wood says that The Hobbit is a very different film and story to the trilogy that was released at the beginning of the noughties.
Speaking to Digital Spy the actor said: "It's a very different kind of story. But they've consulted original writings of Tolkien's that refer to the same time period, to incorporate more storytelling within the concept of the piece, rather than simply just adapting from the book.
"I'm very excited - I'm a fan of the book and I'm a fan of the worlds that they all and we all created, and I'm excited to revisit it."
Wood is not the only actor returning to their LOTR role as Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Hugo Weaving, Ian Holm, Ian mcKellan and Andy Serkis will all also star.
As for Wood he has completed work on Grand Piano, Pawn Shop Chronicles and is currently filming Open Windows.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is released 14th December.
