Elijah Wood is returning to Middle Earth - the actor has signed on to star in the Lord of the Rings prequel The Hobbit.
The actor will reprise the role of Frodo Baggins in the film, which will start shooting in New Zealand next month (Feb11). Wood played Frodo in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Cate Blanchett and Sir Ian McKellen will also reprise their roles from the trilogy.
Peter Jackson is back in the director’s chair for the movie, his first picture since The Lovely Bones at the beginning of last year.
The movie will be split into two and Martin Freeman has been cast in the lead role as Bilbo Baggins.
Richard Armitage, Mikael Persbrandt, James Nesbitt and Aidan Turner have all been cast with David Tennant being linked to the role of Thranduil.
Orlando Bloom is also returning to his role as Legolas.
The Hobbit: Part 1 is set for a Christmas 2012 release.
