Dustin Hoffman is to play Paul Giamatti's dad in a new film adaptation of Mordecai Richler's final novel.
The two acting heavyweights will team up as father and son in in indie drama Barney's Version, which will begin shooting in Rome, Italy in August (09).
Barney's Version was published back in 1997 and follows the life of a hard-drinking man who may have killed his best friend.
Hoffman will play a retired cop who tracks down his son (Giamatti) after he becomes a "person of interest" in the mysterious disappearance of his friend, according to Daily Variety.
The film has been in development for twelve years but has finally been given the green light as Richard J. Lewis takes on drecting duties.
Serendipity Point Films, the Montreal-based Lyla Films and Fandango of Rome have all come together to co-produce the movie.
