Duncan Jones was delighted by his Bafta success but admits that he was disappointed to miss out on an Oscar nomination.
Jones made his feature film debut with Moon, which starred Sam Rockwell, and while he picked up the Carl Foreman award last night he believes his movie was good enough for an Oscar nod.
Speaking to the Press Association the filmmaker said: "To be honest we didn't get the nomination because we were trying to get Sam Rockwell the nomination, because I think he made our film possible and I think he's an amazing actor."
He added: "I think we both feel thrilled to be here but a little bit heartbroken that Sam didn't come as well with a nomination, but he's an amazing actor."
The Carl Foreman Bafta recognises the best debut work from a British director, writer or producer.
Fighting back tears as he picked up his award Jones, the son of David Bowie said: "It's taken me a long time to find out what I want to do with my life, but I've finally found what I really love."
