Toronto Film Festival

While most of the celebrity world seems to be talking about Britney Spears’ less than successful comeback at the Video Music Awards, there’s at least one place that doesn't appear to be obsessed with "Gimme More."I’m talking about the Toronto Film Festival. It was up north that Drew Barrymore’s new boyfriend, Justin Long, was telling Scott Speedman, "No more," at the Motorola Late Night Lounge party. I’m told Speedman tried to entice Long onto the dance floor by flashing some skin. "Scott was dancing toward him and lifting up his shirt and rubbing his abs," a fellow partygoer reports. "Justin ran away."Mena Suvari was also there, dancing to the tunes spun by deejay Michelle Pesce.Sean Penn hosted a VIP party at the Park Hyatt Hotel after the premiere of Into the Wild, the film he directed based on Jon Krakauer’s bestselling nonfiction book about a young man who cut ties to his family, ditched all his possessions and ventured off on his own into the harsh Alaskan terrain.A partygoer tells me that Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush "danced the night away to songs like ‘Getting Jiggy with It.' " Woody Harrelson danced to Jackson 5 hits while being surrounded by a circle of four young ladies.

But Harrelson took a break around 2:45 a.m. to chat with Jessica Alba.

Not everyone was thrilled with the Penn party. I’m told there was so much security that guests of the Park Hyatt endured key checks in the driveway outside the hotel and then faced even more inside as well, such as a maze of red-rope stanchions "like those used to corral travelers in airport security lines," one guest complained.

"The only thing missing" at Penn’s party were "body-cavity searches," the guest said. "Hotel guests paying upward of $700 per night were unimpressed and not amused."

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie managed to enter the hotel a couple of days before without such a fuss.On Friday night, music man Sean Paul helped launch E! Canada with a blowout performance under a giant white tent in the city's Yorkville neighborhood. Wyclef Jean stopped by as did my E! cohorts, including the just-married Giuliana Rancic, Chelsea Handler, Ben Lyons and the big man himself, Ted Harbert.

Viggo Mortensen proved to be one of the friendliest celebs at the festival. He showed up at least a half hour early to the red carpet premiere Eastern Promises, his new flick with Naomi Watts. No problem, because he got busy right away, signing autographs for a line of fans that was as long as a city block. He even handed out free copies of a CD featuring his own piano playing.
