Doug Liman believes that his new movie Fari Game is a step up for him.

Starring Sean Penn and Naomi Watts new movie Fair Game follows the leak of Valerie Plame's CIA agent status by the White House in a big to discredit her husband who criticised and questioned the reasons behind the Iraq war.

Speaking at a Cannes Film Festival press conference for the movie Liman said: "I've not succeeded so well in the past.

"For instance Bourne Identity was supposed to be a retelling of Iran-Contra, which my father ran the investigation on and the American people didn't pay attention to.

"I thought I'd couch it in a spy movie and Chris Cooper's going to play Oliver North and nobody got it.

"This is a step up for me and, because I've failed in the past... Everybody did this film for either no money or the most minimal money. People were just so passionate about how we were going to tell this story.

Fair Game is the first movie for the director since Jumper back in 2008 and the filmmaker believes that this movie is the one he has been trying to make his whole career.
