Dominic West has revealed that he trained with swords as he prepared for his latest movie John Carter.
The actor joins an all star cast for the first blockbuster movie of 2012, which is directed by Andrew Stanton.
But the actor admits that he had to work hard before the filming even got underway so he was in shape for the physical side of his role.
Speaking to The Press Association the actor said: "I did quite a bit for fights, we did some big fights and so I did quite a lot of that and I'll be interested to see how that comes out because they were quite elaborate fights with swords."
And West revealed that John Carter, which also stars Taylor Kitsch and James Purefoy, is a mix of all different genres.
"It's sci-fi and I think it's set in the future, well it's set all over the place, but it starts off as a western and goes into a huge sci-fi thing.
"So we're fighting with swords and flying huge ancient tall ships. So it's all a sort of mish-mash of styles and ages. I think it will be great."
West has enjoyed box office success in recent weeks with The Awakening and lending his voice to the fabulous Arthur Christmas.
John Carter is released 9th March.
