Dominic Cooper has called his new movie character 'dense'.
The actor is starring alongside Gemma Arterton in Stephen Frears' new movie Tamara Drewe, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival this week.
Cooper takes on the role of rock star Ben Sergeant in the movie and admits that he is a little bit stupid.
Speaking at a press conference for the movie he said: "I didn't want you to hate him so I thought it'd be nice if he was quite sweet and endearing. He's just a little bit stupid, really," he said.
"He doesn't really know who he is or what he's doing and so thinks the world revolves around him. He can't believe it when people don't know the band Swipe have split up."
And Cooper, who reveals that he has always wanted to be a rock stars, was allowed free range over where to take the character.
"There were moments when he plays the guitar and sings such dreadful love songs to Tamara. That we fooled around with and just came up with something, it never felt like it was restricted...
"He's just a bit dense. Do I feel like him? Absolutely!"
Cooper was last seen on the big screen in the critically acclaimed An Education and will star in The Devil's Double and Hello Darkness, which will see him work with Julie Christie, in the pipeline.
