Diane Lane has revealed that she was 'flattered' to be cast at Martha Kent.

Lane landed the role of Clark Kent's mother in Zack Snyder's re-boot of the Superman franchise, which will see Christopher Nolan produce.

Henry Cavill has been cast as the man of steel in the movie while Kevin Coaster has been linked to the role of Jonathan Kent.

Speaking to USA Weekend the actress said: "I love 300 and I'm very flattered to play Martha Kent and live up to his vision.

"It's pretty cool. I've always wanted to raise a good man. I thought that was the biggest challenge a woman could have, and so I get the embarrassment of riches."

Secretariat was the last movie from Lane, which saw her tell the remarkable true story of Penny Chenery.

But she has already completed work on Cinema Verite, which sees her work alongside Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini.

Superman: Man of Steel is expected to hit cinemas in December 2012.
