Dev Patel has revealed that he had his doubts when he read the script for The Last Airbender.
The Slumdog Millionaire actor will be back on the big screen later this month in the new movie from M.Night Shyamalan, which is based on the popular animated TV series.
Speaking to the Press Association Patel said:"I read the entire script and I had my concerns - I was like [wince] I'm not too sure if I really wanna be doing this. I wasn't blown away."
Patel admits that it was only when he talked about the project with the direct was he keen to be a part of it. However the movie has struggled with the critics when it was released in America.
But Patel remains upbeat despite the negative reviews that have been coming his way and is inspired by what is being said: "Actually the negative criticism really drives me in a way [he points out he didn't get good reviews for his role in Skins].
"And if I had got amazing reviews for Skins, I don't know if I would have worked as hard on Slumdog, to get the awards I did.
"But then there was too much praise after Slumdog. So to come off Airbender and for the film to be critically smashed like it is now, is great."
The Last Airbender is released 13th August.
