David Tennant has denied that he has been cast as Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit.

After Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy were tipped for the part it seems that the Doctor Who star and popular actor has also been linked to the role in the Guillermo del Toro movie.

The actor told MTV: "The Internet is a curious place, isn't it? I think someone sits in their bedroom in Saskatchewan and comes up with an idea and they post it.

"And within minutes it's around the world and I'm getting phoned up by journalists and friends of mine saying, 'When are you off to shoot with Guillermo [del Toro]?'

"It's not something I know anything about. No one's talked with me."

This is the latest rumour to surround the adaptation of the J.R.R Tolkien novel with whispers that Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortensen were all set to reprise their roles of Legolas and Aragon.

Tennant's tenure as a Time Lord is coming to an end as he hands over the reigns to Matt Smith at Christmas when he bows out of the show after five years.

He has recently joined St. Trinian's II: The Legend of Fritton's Gold as the villainous Pomfrey alongside Rupert Everett and Colin Firth.
