David O'Russell has hinted that he would like to write a follow up to The Fighter.
Earlier this month Mark Wahlberg, who stars as Micky in the movie, announced his interest in taking the story further and it seems that director O'Russell is having similar thoughts.
Speaking to MTV News the filmmaker said: "I think Micky's story has a lot of heart whichever way you cut it.
"You'd go towards the Gatti fights and you could go into the history of the family more. I really like the sisters."
The Fighter, which was released earlier this year was a critical hit and went on to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
While it missed out on the Best Picture gong Christian Bale and Melissa Leo both picked up the supporting awards for their performances.
David O'Russell has already completed work on movie Nailed - which is set to star Jake Gyllenhaal, Jessica Biel, James Marsden and Catherine Keener.
He also has The Silver Linings Playbook and Uncharted: Drake's Fortune in the pipeline.
