David Morrissey has become the latest actor to criticise the axing of the UK Film Council.
The UK Film Council, which was launched in 2000 under a Labour government to halp fund British movies but the council has now been scrapped as the Conservatives make their cost cuts.
Speaking to Digital Spy the actor said: "I'm a fan of the UK film industry, the UK Film Council. I think it needs some sort of change within its bureaucracy but I think its existence is really important - particularly for first-time filmmakers.
"Not just in front of the camera but all sides of the technical business that we're involved in."
Morrissey revealed that he had also been angered by the way that the UK Film Council has been depicted and how the movies that have not done well have been focused on.
"I think it's wrong to say that it's a puppet of any sort of American film industry, the UK film industry has earned billions.
"Looking through the papers recently they've cited one film, Sex Lives Of The Potato Head or whatever it's called. That's their big thing because it failed in a spectacular way, but actually their successes have been massive.
"It did need to change in some way, but I'm really angry that it's been threatened with closure."
