David Fincher has admitted that he was a big fan of the Niels Arden Oplev directed The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Fincher's version of the Stieg Larsson novel hits the big screen this Christmas with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara taking over the central roles
And the Oscar nominated filmmaker was impressed with how well the novel was adapted given the small budget that the original movie had to work with.
Speaking to USA Today the filmmaker said: "I read it and thought, 'Holy God, how do you compress this into a movie?' I thought the original did a great job, given its [$15 million] budget.
"When you have that much, it's going to be limited in terms of the scope.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is the first film for Fincher since he enjoyed critical and commercial success with The Social Network earlier this year.
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is released 26th December.
