Darren Aronofsky has admitted that Natalie Portman was easy to direct.
She just walked right in and took control
The filmmaker is back in the director’s chair with new movie Black Swan - his first movie since the success of The Wrestler.
He teams up with Natalie Portman, who picked up Best Actress at the Golden Globes at the weekend for her performance, and he reveals that she was perfect to work with.
Speaking to Metro the filmmaker said: I'm really very, very direct and I probably have scared away a lot of film stars because I tell them how there's not going to be any money for their trailers.
"Most movie stars are like, 'Do I really need this in my life?' I've scared away a lot of people."
"[I've] used absolutely every technique possible - a whip and a carrot. Natalie Portman... all I had to do was open the door. She just walked right in and took control."
The movie was nominated for Best Picture at Sunday’s awards - Aronofsky was also nominated for Best Director.
The movie won over critics and audiences during its run on the festival circuit last year and was an early favourite for a Best Picture Oscar nod.
Black Swan is released 21st January.
