Danny Boyle returned home yesterday to Bury to show off his Oscar.
The fifty two year old filmmaker dropped into the St Mary's Catholic Social Club in Radcliffe, where his father used to take him as a boy, to celebrate his Best Director win with his family and locals.
The actor who was joined by his father and sister visited the club a couple of weeks ago to show off his Bafta and Golden Globe.
His sister Maria told Digital Spy: "It's been a really emotional time. Certainly when he produced the Oscar and we saw it for the first time, a few tears come to your eyes because you can't quite believe it. It's such an iconic statue."
He said: "They are very proud and it’s a lovely environment. You always want the people you grew up with to go and watch your films."
Rags to riches movie Slumdog Millionaire, which almost went straight to DVD, has dominated the awards ceremonies over recent weeks picking up Baftas, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards,
It picked up ten Oscar nominations and was expected to do well at last week's ceremony. It won eight of it's nominations including Best Picture and Best Director for Boyle.
The local council are now considering honouring Boyle with the Freeman of the Borough of Bury.
