Danny Boyle admits that he is shocked at the news that he will receive the BFI Fellowship from the British Film Institute at the London Film festival next month.
The British filmmaker has enjoyed a career that has spanned twenty year producing movies such as Shallow Grave, Trainspotting and 28 Days Later.
But it was Slumdog Millionaire that brought him his biggest success as the movie went on to win Best Picture at last year's Oscars and Boyle himself picked up Best Director.
Speaking to Digital Spy: "A significant helping of humility is called for in the face of this honour and that is not difficult considering those awarded it before.
"I am shocked, flattered and delighted to receive the Fellowship on behalf of everyone who has helped me make the films, the successful ones and the not so successful ones, and on behalf of all runts in every litter."
And Boyle is back with a new movie 127 Hours, which stars James Franco, and the film will close the London Film Festival.
127 Hours tells the true story of Mountain climber Aaron Rolston and his remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah.
