Danny Boyle has revealed that he was inspired to make his new movie after he saw The Wrestler and the central performance of Mickey Rourke.
Boyle is back in the director's chair with his latest film 127 Hours, which tells the remarkable story of climber Aron Ralston.
Speaking to Digital Spy the filmmaker said: "I remember seeing The Wrestler when Mickey Rourke very much dominates the film and I remember thinking, 'I must make a film like that one day when it's just one actor and you follow the actor.
Raslton was forced to amputate his own arm in order to survive when he fell and got trapped during a climbing trip.
Actor James Franco takes on the central role of Ralston and Boyle admits that it was a new challenge for him focusing on just one actor.
"You have to learn some different skills doing it - you have to give them a lot of the control. If you try to manipulate them too much - like you can do with a group dynamic - you spot it.
"It's so intimate, one-person films like this: the camera is so tight you can see if they're being told [what to do] rather than finding it themselves."
127 Hours is the first movie for Boyle since the mammoth success of Slumdog Millionaire, which went on to win Best Picture and Best Director Oscars in 2009.
127 Hours is out now.
