Daniel Craig feared the delays to the new Bond movie would cost him his role as the superspy as would be "too old" to resume the role.

Production on the follow-up to 2008's Quantum of Solace was put on hold indefinitely due to financial problems at the MGM film studio.

The issues were eventually resolved and the untitled 23rd 007 movie is due to begin shooting later this year (11), but Craig admits he was worried the long delays would lead  Bond bosses to drop him from the cast.

He tells Esquire magazine, "If we couldn't get the film made it would be ridiculous because we'd made all this money and it was a good bet.

"They were just in a very complicated financial situation but there was nothing (film bosses) could do.

"Either it was going to sort itself out or I was going to get too old and that would be the end of it.

"I was desperate to have another crack at it. I think I would have felt disappointed eventually."
