Daniel Craig believes that people will be shocked by the graphic adilt content in his new movie The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The James Bond actor has teamed up with director David Fincher for an American remake of the hit Swedish movie, that was based on the books by Stieg Larsson.

Craig takes on the role of Mikael Blomkvist in the movie alongide Rooney Mara, who plays Lisbeth Salander, and he admits that Fincher has held nothing back in this film.

Speaking to Esquire the actor said: "It's not that he simply showed me footage that was horribly graphic. It was stuff that was happening, or had happened. And somehow you don't see it. There's more than one way to sense violence. Much more powerful ways than seeing it step-by-step.

"It's as adult as you can possibly make it. This is adult drama. I grew up, as we f**king all did, watching The Godfather and that, movies that were made for adults. And this is a $100 million R-rated movie. Nobody makes those anymore."

"Fincher, he's not holding back. They've given him free rein. He showed me some scenes recently, and my hand was over my mouth, going, 'Are you f**king serious?'"

However Craig will be on the screen before that with Cowboys and Aliens later this summer, which sees him team up with Harrison Ford and director Jon Favreau.

He has also lent his voice to Steven Spielberg's The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn - which is due out later this year.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is released 26th December.
