Damian Lewis has revealed that he took on the small role in The Sweeney because he was keen to work with director Nick Love and Ray Winstone.
The big screen adaptation of the popular TV show will hit the big screen next week which sees Winstone play Regan and Ben Drew take over the role of Carter.
And Lewis while Lewis admits that it was a small role he was keen to be involved in Nick Love's vision.
Speaking to The Press Association the actor said: "Actors choose jobs for many different reasons. I'd been away for five months in America working very hard.
"This was a week's work and I had a small part in this. But I was interested in Nick Love, who pitched it to me in an interesting way, and the cast they had already assembled.
"I especially wanted to work with Ray, who I met previously but never worked with before."
We are going to be seeing plenty of Lewis in 2012 as the second season of Homeland is set to be aired on channel 4.
The series will see him reprise the role of Nicholas Brody while Claire Danes is also set to return.
The Sweeney is released 14th September.
