Chris Weitz has announced that Dakota Fanning is "very strange and spooky" as Jane in his latest movie New Moon.
Fanning along with Michael Sheen, Christopher Heyerdahl, Charlie Bewley and Jamie Campbell Bower have joined the cast as the Volturi vampires in the second in the twilight Saga.
"I think she wanted to play an evil character for one. She's always kind of playing a very nice girl and she is a very nice girl.
In an interview with People the filmmaker said: "There's no question that she is very strange and spooky in this movie."
He added: "I think [the Volturi] are magnificently scary and at the same time very elegant, so that's how I wanted to portray them on screen.
"I wanted to steer clear of any clichés - Dracula's castle sort of stuff. When you see their lair, it's actually quite classically beautiful."
Chris Weitz is new to the Twilight franchise after taking over from Catherine Hardwicke in the director's chair.
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart return to their roles of lovers Edward Cullen and Bella Swan.
New Moon is released in November.
