Colin Firth has admitted that he was more than happy to play a supporting role in new movie Tinker, Tailor, Soldier Spy.
The Oscar winning actor was in Venice to promote what promises to be one of the political thrillers of the year - an adaptation of the John Le Carre novel.
And despite picking up a Best Actor OScar earlier this year for The King's Speech he was happy for the supporting role that he landed.
Speaking at a news conference at the Venice Film Festival the actor said: "It was great to have something that was meaty enough to get my teeth into, but let other people do the heavy lifting.
"It's basically all I did last year and it suited me very well."
Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy boasts an all star British cast that includes Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, mark Strong, Toby Jones and William Hurt.
It will be the first time that we have seen Firth on the big screen since his Oscar triumph but he has Main Street and Gambit on the horizon.
Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy is released 16th September.
