Colin Firth has revealed that he identified with Bertie in his new movie The King’s Speech.
The actor is currently the toast of Hollywood having picked up the Best Actor Golden Globe at the weekend for his central performance in the movie.
Directed by Tom Hooper the film follows King George VI’s struggle to overcome a stammer and the actor admits that his stage fright helped him understand his character.
Speaking to Parade he said: "I've never stuttered, but I've had the same drowning feeling from stage fright.
"When I forget my lines, I forget who I am, where I am. It feels like an eternity until I come back."
"The people who've inspired me are infinitely more articulate than I am. But I love language. I always used to talk too much in class," he added.
Firth is now the red hot favourite to scoop the Best Actor Oscar later this year - just twelve months after receiving his very first nomination.
The movie has also picked up fourteen Bafta nods - leading the field - including Best Actor for his performance.
The actor had teamed up with Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman Mark Strong and Ciaran Hinds for his new movie Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
