Colin Firth is Sky Bet’s short priced favourite at 1/16 to win back-to-back BAFTAs after nominations were announced this morning.
Firth, who also picked up a Golden Globe on Monday and a Critics’ Choice award last Friday, is deemed a certainty to bag the best actor BAFTA for his moving portrayal of stammering King George VI in ‘The Kings Speech’.
The Tom Hooper drama leads the pack with 14 BAFTA nods and Sky Bet make it 8/11 favourite to win best picture.
Facebook movie ‘The Social Network’, which enjoyed double success over the weekend, winning the best picture award at both the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice awards, is 6/5 second favourite.
Sky Bet’s entertainment betting expert Helen Jacob said: “’The Social Network’ has swept the critics’ prizes this year but ‘The King’s Speech’ looks set to dominate at the BAFTAs, which bodes very well for its hopes at the Oscars.”
‘The King’s Speech’ is also represented in the supporting performance categories and Sky Bet make Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Queen Elizabeth, the odds-on favourite to take home the best supporting actress BAFTA, while Geoffrey Rush, who plays the King’s unorthodox speech therapist, is 7/4 second favourite to win best supporting actor.
The BAFTAs ceremony will take place at London's Royal Opera House on February 13.
