Christian Bale had to battle his emotions as he made his acceptance speech on Sunday evening.
The British star picked up Best Supporting Actor for his role as Dicky Eklund in boxing drama The Fighter.
Speaking as he picked up his award he said: "I didn't think I was like this. [Thanks to] my wonderful wife and our little girl, who's taught me so much more than I'll ever be able to teach her
It was a sentimental end to a speech that started with several jokes.
"What a room full of talented and inspirational people. What am I doing here?
"I'm not gonna drop the F-bomb like [co-star and Best Supporting Actress winner] Melissa Leo did," Bale joked. "I've done that plenty!
Bale was the favourite for the award after picking up the Golden Globe earlier this year as he saw off John Hawkes, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Bafta winner Geoffrey Rush for the gong.
And Bale is set to reprise the role of Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan's third Batman movie The Dark Knight Rises.
