Chris Pine admits that he didn't know to much about Star Trek when he signed up to the franchise and he thinks that that has helped him cope with the pressures of the role.
The actor is set to reprise the role of Captain Kirk next summer with Star Trek Into Darkness, the first film since the franchise was rebooted back in 2009.
And Pine admits that he tries not to think about the performances that have gone before and just how popular a series it is.
Speaking to The Press Association the actor said: "It's about a 250 million US dollars movie and a lot is riding on it to be a success.
"I didn't know much about the series when I first got the role and I learned a lot about it doing it. It's way easier. I think the way that I deal with it is that I never even think about it."
J.J. Abrams is back in the director's chair for the movie while Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and Zoe Saldana are all reprising their roles.
As for Pine he is back on the big screen this week as he voices the character of Jack Frost in Rise of the Guardians.
He has also been shooting the new Jack Ryan movie, in which he will play the title role, which is directed by Kenneth Branagh.
Star Trek Into Darkness is released 17th May 2013.
