Chris Evans has admitted that Captain America: The First Avenger is for 'the fans'.
The actor is back in the comic book movie, after starring in The Fantastic Four and The Losers, as Steve Rogers.
And while the movie also wants to appeal to a new audience the actor admits that he hopes they get it right for the long standing fans.
Speaking to Total Film the actor said: "It's important, you know at the end of the day we are doing this for the fans.
"And if they're not happy, we've missed the mark.
"You go in and do as much research as you can from the comic books, but you're also trying to make something your own.
"You want to make sure you've done your homework."
And the actor reveals that it took a while for him to get under the skin of the character and really understand him.
"It wasn't until we got our hands dirty with the script and had a good couple of scenes in the can, that I thought, 'Man, I think I'm actually getting this guy'.
"I feel like the character now, much more than a shield or a mask."
Captain America: The First Avenger sees Joe Johnston, who brought us The Wolfman, return to the director's chair while Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell and Dominic Cooper are all on the cast list.
Captain America: The First Avenger is released 29th July.
