Chloe Moretz has emerged as the favourite to land the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the movie adaptation of Suzanne Collins' trilogy of hit young-adult books.
Movie executives are keen to start work on the films as Collins' final book of three, Mockingjay, shot to the top of bestsellers lists upon its release last month (Aug10).
The first film, The Hunger Games, is expected to start shooting at the beginning of 2011.
Twilight actress Kristen Stewart was among the first names connected to the trilogy, but insiders insist Moretz now has the lead.
Moretz made her breakthrough earlier this year with her role in Matthew Vaughn's big screen adaptation of graphic novel Kick Ass, in which she played Mindy Macready.
She will next be seen in Let Me In, the remake of Swedish movie Let The Right One In, alongside Kodi Smit-McPhee and Richard Jenkins. She is currently filming Hugo Cabret and has already completed work in The Fields.
Hick and The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea are in the pipeline as is a Kick Ass sequel.
