Catherine Zeta Jones believes that older actresses can compete with the younger generation.
The Oscar winner, who is back on the big screen with her new comedy The Rebound, has turned forty and admits that she hasn't struggled to land movie roles.
In an interview with the Daily Mirror the actress said: "I'm out to prove 40-year-olds can do it just as well as 20-somethings ever did.
"I'm not going out to pasture. I'm going after the juicy roles and I intend to prove older women have just as much strength in Hollywood as young women and men.
"It's a natural progression. I'm going to play more mums than sex symbols. A lot of people talk about how hard it is to find good roles for older women but I, frankly, haven't found that.
"I've actually seen an influx of interesting and compelling roles that makes me confident that this over-40 myth in Hollywood is just that."
"I'm 40 and although I don't think I feel or look it, there's a stigma attached to a woman's age. When you think of the box-office hits, they star the younger ingenues and that's the reality.
"As you get older, the roles become thinner or not so accessible. You have to take it into your own hands and look for the roles."
The Rebound is Zeta Jones' first movie role since Death Defying Acts back in 2007 but has been linked with Dali, Cleo and Racing The Monsoon.
