Cate Blanchett has revealed that she enjoyed filming the action scenes in Robin Hood but sometimes she didn't know what she had to do.
The Oscar winning actress takes on the role of Marion in Ridley Scott's new movie Robin Hood, which sees Russell Crowe in the lead role.
Talking to GMTV the actress said: "I get to do a bit of broadsword butt-kicking. Ridley always phrases it in a way, you know, you come down to set and he’s set up this extraordinary shot.
"He’ll say, ‘I want you to swerve round the back of this horse and then another one’s going to come at you but you dodge it and then two people are going at you with axes and I want you to whack them with the broadsword, turn around and hit someone else... that’s alright isn’t it?’
"I mean you can’t say no. It was such a testosterone -filled set that I didn’t want to be the girl saying, ‘I can’t do that because I might break a nail.’ "
The movie depicts an new image of Marion, no longer the damsel in distress that needs rescuing by Robin, instead a strong woman who is not afraid to fight for herself.
Robin Hood will be Blanchett's first movie since starring alongside Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, although she did lend her voice to animation movie Ponyo.
The actress is currently filming Hanna.
Robin Hood is released 12th May.
