Brandon Routh admits that he would love to return as Superman.
The actor took on the role of the man of steel back in 2006 when Bryan Singer re-booted the franchise with Superman Returns. There is another project in the pipeline and Christopher Nolan has been brought in to produce the movie.
And while no actor has been announced in the role of Superman, Routh wants to reprise the role.
Speaking to the Press Association the actor said: "I don't know, that's up in the air, and I'm sure we'll find out in the future - I certainly would love to return to my character but it's not within my power.
Nolan has already enjoyed success with the comic book movie when The Dark Knight broke the $1 billion barrier back in 2008 and Routh believes that the director will be good for the new Superman movie.
"I think he could bring a lot of reality and a lot of creativity. He's a fantastic director and has a lot of psychological thoughts," he said.
"He's very intellectual in his films, and makes you think beyond what's just on the surface, a lot of undertones, so it could be a very deep and action-packed Superman."
Routh will be back on the big screen next month as she stars alongside Michael Cera, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick and Mary Elizabeth Winstead in Edgar Wright's big screen adaptation of Scott Pilgrim vs The World.
Scott Pilgrim vs The World is released 25th August.
