Blake Lively turned to the internet when she was offered a role in Green Lantern - because she had never heard of the comic book superheroes.
The actress stars opposite Ryan Reynolds in the upcoming action movie, but admits she had no knowledge of the popular DC Comics characters before she agreed to the part.
So she frantically researched the Green Lantern history online - and even received a crash course from DC Comics boss Geoff Johns.
Lively tells Empire magazine, "I didn't know anything about Green Lantern. I went on Wikipedia - it was like a different language!
"It's been around since the '40s, there is a lot of story I've missed!"
The Green Lantern is the first big budget blockbuster movie for the actress, who made her name in Gossip Girl. But up first for the actress is The Town, the latest movie from Ben Affleck.
