There have been a whole host of excellent documentaries this year but the shortlist for the Best Documentary Oscar 2012 has been whittled down to just fifteen titles.
It's great to see Project Nim in the running, a movie that had be sobbing from start to finish, and yet was a totally gripping film.
While Buck, Battle For Brooklyn and We Were Here could all potentially be in the running next year.
However there were a few high profile movies that were absent from the shortlist including Into The Abyss, which is directed by Werner Herzog, Steve James' The Interrupters, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold from Morgan Spurlock as well as the superb Senna.
Here is the full shortlist:
· Battle for Brooklyn
· Bill Cunningham New York
· Buck
· Hell and Back Again
· If a Tree Falls: A Story of the Earth Liberation Front
· Jane’s Journey
· The Loving Story
· Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory
· Pina
· Project Nim
· Semper Fi: Always Faithful
· Sing Your Song
· Undefeated
· Under Fire: Journalists in Combat
