Ben Affleck says that not having someone to 'kick you in the ass' is one of the most difficult things about directing himself.
Affleck directs and stars in new political thriller Argo - which is his first directorial outing since he received critical acclaim for The Town.
And while he make need that kick from time to time he admits that he finds not being directed by someone he disagrees with 'liberating'.
Speaking to STV the actor said: "That's actually one of the most important things you miss when you direct yourself; you don't have a person to kick you in the ass if you don't have enough energy.
"Other than that, I find it liberating, because I'm not being directed by somebody with whom I disagree.
"The environment I create for myself and the other actors is hopefully one of near-complete freedom, where they can do as many takes as they want, take risks and I sort it all out in the editing room."
Argo has been winning over critics and audiences over the last few months as Affleck continues his great run behind the camera.
Not only is his movie highly praised but it is an early Oscar favourite and is being tipped to be a major player on the awards circuit later this year.
Argo is released 7th November.
