Ben Affleck wanted to bring a feeling of realism to his new movie The Town.

Affleck is back behind the camera as well as on the cast list for his new project, the first time he has directed a film since the success of Gone Baby Gone.

Speaking to MSN at the Venice Film Festival the actor turned director said: "I wanted to show (the robberies) as we see them in real life.

"(We) are accustomed to seeing robberies and violence in 15 frames-per-second, black-and-white material we see on YouTube or the nightly news of someone breaking in, with no sound, and breaking some glass and even maybe shooting."

He added: "The social realism aspect of it was really important to me. I don't think you can like a movie like this or believe a movie like this unless you have a strong sense of place and really believe that the characters are from there and what you see is really happening."

The Town also stars Jon Hamm, Rebecca Hall, Jeremy Renner and Pete Postlethwaite and the film received it's world premiere last night at the Venice Film Festival.

It's a busy year for Affleck who has also completed work on Company Men, the latest movie by John Wells also starring Maria Bello, Tommy Lee Jones and Chris Cooper.
