Strike Sends Stars Flocking To Bafta Awards
A host of A-list stars are vying for places at the forthcoming Bafta awards in London - as the ceremony will be unaffected by the ongoing Hollywood writers strike.Several major awards ceremonies in the U.S., including the Golden Globes and the People's Choice Awards, were scrapped after the Writers Guild of America threatened to erect picket lines outside. And there are now fears the upcoming Oscars could be the next victim of the walkouts. Many high profile actors pledged their support to the writers and vowed not to attend the ceremonies but as Britain is unaffected by the strikes, stars are lining up to take their place at next month's (Feb08) Baftas, with many vying for the chance to present an award on stage.A source tells British newspaper The Times, "The talent booker's telephones at the Baftas have not stopped ringing. The agents are determined to make sure their star gets a spot".Nominations for the awards, which will take place on 10 February (08) at the Royal Opera House, London, will be announced on Tuesday (15Jan08).George Clooney, Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Cate Blanchett are all tipped to receive nods.
