Avatar's success continued at the UK box office as it stormed to the number one spot toppling A Christmas Carol.
The movie follows a paraplegic marine dispatched to the planet Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.
Avatar grossed an impressive £8.5 million in it's opening weekend, comfortably seeing off the challenge by St Trinian's 2.
And St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold was another new entry at number two taking £1.5 million which, on a regular week, would have secured the top spot.
Last week's number one A Christmas Carol dropped two places to three after returning to the top spot last week.
And UK audiences seemed to have been in a festive mood this weekend as Nativity moved up two places from six to four.
Planet 51 dropped two places from three to five to round off the top five.
This week's biggest fallers came in the form of Paranormal Activity which dropped five places from four to nine. There was also a four place drop for Where The Wild Things Are which fell from two to six.
