Antonio Banderas' career goal is to work alongside Robert De Niro.
2010 will see the actor work with filmmaker Woody Allen and he has worked alongside Tom Hanks, Anthony Hopkins and Sylvester Stallone over the years but his goal is to work with the two time Oscar winner.
The actor tells MSN: "I have admired many of my colleagues in the business but I would love to work with Robert de Niro - he is one of my heroes actually, and I have yet to work with someone of that caliber," he said.
"When I started doing movies, I would say, 'I want to be like that guy, he is so convincing'. When I was 18 years old, he was the one who inspired me through Raging Bull, Taxi Driver and films like that."
Banderas is back on the big screen this summer as he returns to the character of Puss In Boots for Shrek Forever After.
He has also worked with Woody Allen on You Will Meet A tall Dark Stranger starring with Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts and Hopkins once again.
But the actor, who has enjoyed a career that has spanned thirty years, is looking for other challenges and wants to move into directing.
"I am interested in working behind the cameras. It does not correspond with the fact I am turning 50 years old, but from experience perhaps.
"I have shot 82 films now. When you've been in front of the cameras for so many years, you get more and more interested to tell the story from your point of view and I will develop that further. I have an animation company in Spain, and I am very interested in the production side of things."
