Anne Heche is convinced she landed the role of Naughty Joan in new movie comedy Cedar Rapids because she "went red" for the audition.
The former Ally McBeal star was determined to land the role opposite Ed Helms and John C. Reilly and went all out to get it - even donning a fiery red wig when she first met director Miguel Arteta.
She says, "I think every girl in Hollywood wanted the role and I'm really lucky that I got it. I think it's because I went red.
"I walked in with a wig... I thought she should be a redhead and he said, 'Let's do it'.
"I've never put on a wig before... I felt like I had been out in the world a lot as a blonde and I felt like a Mid-Western woman needed to look like she would put something in her hair at the (bargain hotel chain) Motel 6 right before going and meeting the guys, and it just seemed like bottled red was the way to go."
Heche plays a racy veteran insurance convention regular in the movie.
