Ang Lee is currently in negotiations to direct an adaptation of Yann Martel's novel Life of Pi.
The Oscar winning director is following in the footsteps of M Night Shyamalan and jean Pierre jeunet in attempting to get this project off the ground.
According to Variety Elizabeth Gabler picked up the rights to the book while Gil Netter is rumoured to be aboard the project as producer.
Life of Pi follows a young man who is the sole survivor of a sunken freighter and finds himself on a lifeboat with a hungry Bengal tiger, an orangutan, a hurt zebra and a hyena.
Lee made a name for himself with his adaptation of Sense and Sensibility back in 1995, a film which helped Kate Winslet grab the attention of Hollywood.
He went on to direct Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon before winning his Best Director Oscar for Brokeback Mountain, narrowly missing out on Best Picture to Crash.
He is currently finishing directing duties on Taking Woodstock which is out later this year and will also film A Little Game.
